MonaLisa Touch™
MonaLisa Touch is a treatment for women who have a dry and itchy vagina. It is a non-invasive alternative to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for the treatment of symptoms related to Vaginal Atrophy.
It is a five minute, pain free procedure that has no downtime and is suitable for almost all patients suffering from the effects of Vaginal Atrophy. The MonaLisa Touch treatment is suitable for women of all ages who present with symptoms such as:
- Dyspareunia
- Urinary incontinence
- Vaginal itchiness and burning
- Dryness and loss of lubrication
- Recurrent thrush and UTI’s
- Prolapse
- Vaginal laxity
- Vaginal and vulval pain
Most women experience a noticeable improvement after just one treatment, however a course of three treatments 4-6 weeks apart is recommended. Patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately following a MonaLisa Touch procedure. The post treatment instructions are to avoid any sexual activity and strenuous exercise for five days.
MonaLisa Touch procedure is a laser system developed in Italy to treat vaginal dryness and other female sexual dysfunction issues associated with aging and menopause. The laser provides light energy to vaginal walls, creating hundreds of microscopic “pin pricks” that are painless, but stimulate a healing response leading to new collagen production, improve the vascularity of the vaginal mucosa as well as increase moisture and tissue elasticity. There is no discomfort, no downtime and there are no side effects from the procedure.
MonaLisa Procedure has also been used to treat lower urinary tract symptoms such as urgency and frequency of urination and incontinence, as well as vulvar disorders such as lichen sclerosis. MonaLisa Touch is a low risk procedure that provides longer lasting improvements than HRT. However, it can be used with HRT, as an alternative treatment for patients who are not suitable for HRT or for those patients who have found HRT to be ineffective. Dr Ashrafi will discuss your particular symptoms prior to the procedure and allow time to answer any questions or concerns.

It is best to have a referral from your GP to come and visit Dr Ashrafi. A referral is welcome but not essential for your MonaLisa Touch treatments. Included is a full consultation and assessment by an experienced female gynaecologist to assess your individual needs. The procedure is done at Level 2 131 Wickham Terrace, Springhill, Brisbane, QLD 4113.
Initial Consultation is $100. You get a refund of $72 from Medicare if you have a GP referral.
The treatment is $590 per treatment. The recommendation is for 3 treatments – 4 to 6 weeks apart.
Any future top up treatments are $350.
Please note that at this stage there is no Medicare item number for the treatment therefor it is not a Medicare claimable procedure (or private health insurance).
As a general rule most patients require 3 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart. After that you will have a review appointment with the doctor 3 months after your last treatment. At the 3 month mark following your MonaLisa Touch treatments your best results will be known. Some patients require another 1 or 2 treatments at this stage, however everyone is different and the doctor will advise you if this is required.
Most patients will require a “top-up” treatment 12 months afterwards.
